Welcome Aboard Chris!
While waiting on inventory images to download on the website, I decided to warm up the office by cooking a treat fresh off the farm. Since Cherry Creek Events teaches Family Life Education and Life Skills Workshops, I thought it appropriate to share my Slow Cooker Sweet Pear Apple Crisp Recipe.
Slow Cooker Sweet Pear Apple Crisp Recipe:
Start by preparing your work space:
1 crock-pot (medium or large)
All-Purpose Cooking Spray
When cooking, always begin by thoroughly washing your hands with warm water; scrubbing at least 30 seconds with soap.
Begin by cutting your fruit (you may use canned pears if desired):
4 Cups Pears (diced into ½ inch chunks)
4 cups Apples (diced into ½ inch chunks)
Spray crock-pot with All Purpose Cooking Spray making a light coat. Pour pears and apples into the pot and mix.
*I’ve found it’s easier to mix the fruit by hand in the pot. Mix them for a well-balanced fruit blend. Wash hands.
In separate bowl, mix:
1/3 cup Light Brown Sugar
1 TBS White All-Purpose Flour
½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
¼ tsp Salt
Pinch Nutmeg- ground
Mix this mixture thoroughly so there are no clumps. You want a nice powdery look to the dried spices.
*Mixing with a fork usually helps break up any clumping.
Sprinkle dry mixture over the apples and pears in the pot. Then add:
1 TBS Lemon Juice
*stir with fork.
Make the Crumble:
In a large bowl, mix the following:
¾ cup Flour
¾ cup Oatmeal Oats
1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
½ tsp Salt
1 cube Butter- sliced in chunks
Mix thoroughly. Again, mixing with your fingers is the best way to accomplish this task. Pour crumble on top of fruit mixture making a crust.
Turn slow-cooker to high and cover mixture with a clean kitchen towel. Allow to cook 1 hour with towel on. Remove towel and finish cooking with slow-cooker lid for the remaining hour or until apples become soft.
Best if served hot with Ice cream or whipped cream.
Have a good week and enjoy this fall weather.
