Congratulations on your engagement! While you're waiting on your wedding planning contract, please enjoy some quick helpful wedding planning tips for those early stages. You may be planned beyond this part already, but we want to make sure all bases are covered so nothing gets missed in the early stages.
I.  Engaged
Announcing your engagement is an important part of starting this journey.
Begin first by announcing your engagement to family and friends.
  • Parents of the couple often post announcements of the engagement in the local paper to inform the community of the upcoming nuptials.
  • An official engagement announcement may be posted later with an engagement photo.
Engagement Trivia Question:
Why does the groom get down on one knee to propose?
Hosting an Engagement Party:
Friends and family members might choose to host an engagement party in honor of the couple and the new commitment made. Gifts are not required at an engagement party, but are welcome. The teapot is the traditional engagement gift, though cash or gift cards are common. It's expected at the engagement party for the couple to make a speech. You may want to decide early who will give the speech (often includes a thank you to your host, a small highlight of your relationship, and share the excitement you have for moving forward with your planning process). DO NOT ask for honor attendants yet ( Maid of Honor, Best Man, Bridesmaids nor Groomsmen) we will cover their responsibilities in a future email so those selected are truly up to the task.

For our International Clients: In the United Kingdom (and Canada), a "banns", or official announcement made by the church to inform the congregation of the upcoming marriage, is proclaimed for religious weddings. The Banns give the public opportunity to announce any legal reasons why the wedding should not proceed. Reasons to call off a wedding include:
  • Pre existing marriage not yet annulled , or an incomplete divorcement
  • Lack of consent from one partner (blackmail is not considered a reason for marriage)
  • Being too closely related to be legally married (in many states and countries couples only need to be as distant as 3rd cousins to legally marry, though in a few locations both in the US and internationally, 1st cousins are legally eligible for marriage.)
*We include these points of consideration used to qualify the Banns only because we want our clients from all countries to have the most rewarding experience possible. We have had weddings postpone in past because of an incomplete divorcement preventing the new marriage from going forward, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE double check that you are both unmarried, entering the engagement willingly, and legally able to marry.
The banns are a formality and in the UK and Canada they are considered legally binding negating the need for a marriage license.

Happy Planning!

Engagement Trivia Answer:

The practice of a groom getting down on one knee dates back to the time of knights and chivalry. To show respect and servitude to his mistress, a knight would kneel. When he would compete in a tournament, he would kneel and wait for his lady to throw him a ribbon in her colors as a symbol or her support and loyalty. Over time, this became the standard position for asking a woman's hand in marriage.
Please see the attached Document which explains the Roles and Responsibilities of each member of the honor/bridal party. The document is helpful to view prior to selecting honor party members, then to view again with honor party members after they have been selected.
The link will provide the document. To access, use the Passcode: CherryCreek
Attached to this email is a document file to complete and scan to your planner about who you end up selecting for each position.
Next Steps: Assigning Tasks to your party & using checklists to help keep them on track.
